Chevy Chase, MD – March 26, 2018 – Victor O. Schinnerer & Company (“Schinnerer”), the leading underwriting manager, today announced the launch of a dedicated professional liability policy for materials transparency consultants. Schinnerer is the first insurance market to proactively cover the professional services of this growing profession.
Born out of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, materials transparency consultants work with architects and engineers to select building products that contain few, if any, of the substances found on public health or environmental impact lists such as formaldehyde, lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium.
“The number of materials transparency consultants has risen considerably over the last few years as more project owners seek LEED certification. But as the profession has grown, so too has the professional liability risk,” said Kevin Collins, senior vice president and underwriting manager at Schinnerer. “With Schinnerer’s dedicated professional liability policy, materials transparency consultants and the architects and engineers with whom they contract can have the assurance of knowing that liability insurance coverage is in place.”
The policy, issued on an admitted basis and offered through A-rated insurer CNA, provides coverage for materials transparency consultants’ professional services and pollution exposures. Policies are available on a multi-year basis in all 50 states.
